Shipping and Recieveing Clerk

Responsible for managing shipping and receiving for inbound and outbound shipments.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Handles all paperwork for incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Audits shipments
  • Coordinates logistics for inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Works closely with customer service and quality to ensure shipments are accurate and meet established timelines.
  • Tracks and routinely reports the status of inbound shipments
  • Handles all communication internally and externally pertaining to inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Receives goods and verifies the quality and count of all items unloaded from trucks and trailers; checks against suppliers count and immediately reports discrepancies to carriers, supervisor, and purchasing officer per company policy.
  • Verifies and records all items loaded for shipments.
  • Maintains shipping records for requested categories including goods returned, dunnage, and returnable pallets.
  • Maintains database of shipment data to ensure that customer orders are updated and that appropriate billing documents are provided to accounting or other associated departments as required.
  • Notifies supervisor of major discrepancies, over-shipments, or substitutions.
  • Prepares bills of lading and dray tickets for shipments.
  • Completes information on damage claims for in-transit damage.
  • Transports materials on shipping dock by hand or with a forklift or pallet jack.
  • Assists in day-to-day operations and works closely with Shipping and Receiving, Machine Shop, and Assembly.
  • Utilizes the computer to access shipping software for outbound shipments.
  • Utilizes custom software to process inbound shipments.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment using proper warehousing practices.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

  • Education and/or Experience  High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
  • Language Skills – Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and/or board of directors. Ability to interact clearly and effectively, in both written and oral communication, with supervisor, clients, staff, vendors, etc.
  • Mathematical Skills –Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. This role requires an above-average knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the individual needs to constantly move about inside the warehouse to load, unload, stock and move materials throughout the warehouse. The individual needs

to ascend/ descend a ladder to stock shelves and acquire products to fill orders. The individual frequently positions self to gather products from shelves that are positioned near ground level and overhead. The individual must frequently inspect products and machines in the warehouse to perform inventory count. The individual will spend about 50% of their time operating machinery. They frequently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer printer. They must be able to exchange accurate information with customers and employees while interacting. Must be able to operate lift equipment. They will frequently operate a tow motor throughout the warehouse. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the individual is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The individual frequently works in a controlled climate.
